Narrative Essay

Todorov was one narrative theorist, he came up with the theory that in most movies there is an equilibrium which is the normal story, for example in my trailer this is the main character (jennifer) trying to sleep at night peacfully as she would usually do every other night, then comes the disequilibrium which refers to a distruption in the peace usually by the villlian, in the case of my trailer this would be my villain entering her dreams making it hard for her to sleep then impacting on all her friends by killing one of them. Then last the resolution, this is how the situation if fixed, in the end of my film the villain would be killed my the main character who is the final girl. However for my trailer we would not include the resolution as that would kill the ending of the film and no one would want to go and watch it. Over the last 2 years of studying media I have developed and built upon many skills. For my foundation portfolio I was set the task to create my own music magazine called ‘Red rage’, I chose to do a horror magazine with a target audience of both genders ages 16-24. One thing that was definitely new to me was using a camera effectively to capture professional looking shots and to ensure the picture did not come out blurry. The next biggest challenge was using Photoshop but once I got used to using it, this came in very handy as I was able to edit and merge my pictures until I was happy with the final product. Representation essay

The theory of Male Gaze was created by Laura Mulvey, this theory is that the camera will be positioned in a way that we are able to view the women's body parts for example her curves leaving us being able to see from a mans perspective. The male gaze leads to hegemonic ideologies within our society. Mulvey states that women are used for 2 functions in most films, as an erotic object for the characters within the narrative to view or as an erotic object for the spectators in the cinema to view. I don't believe that this theory really relates to my trailer however it could have some relevance, the as the monster watches his victims and we see the girls from his perspective. The strengths of this theory is that it does have a lot of relevance to today's society and males view on women as more of a sexual object than a human, it also creates awareness towards today's problems.
